Above the
Terrace

About this painting:
Above the Terrace presents a cultivated hillside beneath a towering, surreal cloud formation. The sky is painted entirely with sponge, layer upon layer of soft, rounded shapes, creating a massive, almost sculptural presence of clouds. They seem to rise out of nowhere, overwhelming the horizon and dominating the composition with a quiet intensity.
In contrast, the landscape below is structured and grounded, painted with deliberate brushstrokes. Its rhythmic lines suggest terraces or agricultural patterns – controlled, man-made, and orderly.
The tension between the grounded, linear earth and the billowing, otherworldly sky gives the painting a surreal, slightly unsettling quality. The viewer is left with the impression of something vast approaching – silent, soft, but unmistakably powerful.
